The article discusses the role of Bretton Woods institutions in providing structural assistance for economic growth. However, the IMF/WB policies have repeatedly failed due to bad local governance or the inadequacy of their strategy. The article suggests that achieving development in the third world plays by different rules than further growing developed nations. Liberalization might not be the right mean in an early stage of development. The IMF/WB operates under the premise of the ignorance hypothesis, which ignores the way how political decisions are actually taken.
